Guayaquil: Tourism In The Gulf Promotes Visits To The City’s Emblematic Places

Through the project “Tourism in the Gulf”, “the Gulf of Guayaquil will become a tourist area and it will help vindicate the fluvial tradition of the Guayas River,” ensured the Minister of Tourism, Sandra Naranjo. The first phase of the “Tourism in the Gulf” project went into operation on Saturday, July 25, 2015.

Guayaquil offers several attractions to those visiting the city: the Santay Island and the pedestrian bridge that goes from Guayaquil and Duran to the ecovillage located in the Island. This is a site from which one can visit the rest of the Island with its Pacific Coast flora and fauna.

Another attraction is the Guayaquil Historic Park. Located in the neighboring Samborondon Canton, it shows visitors different species of animals, birds, trees and plants endemic to the coast. There are also artistic, cultural and gastronomic exhibitions.

On the other hand, the train station that links the Andes with the Pacific Coast is located in the Duran Canton. The Cruise Train departs from the capital of Ecuador, Quito, and reaches this site. Thanks to the “Tourism in the Gulf” project, this railway station is well connected to the Santay Island Historic Park and the Malecon 2000; therefore, with the rest of the city of Guayaquil.
