Since last June 15, Ecuador Train has a new route available to its clients: The Lakes’ Train Route. It is a journey that takes passengers aboard a steam locomotive that runs through the Andean landscapes of Imbabura, between Ibarra, the provincial capital, and the city of Otavalo.
During the experience, the tourists’ train stops at some stations, such as San Antonio de Ibarra, where visitors can walk around art workshops internationally recognized thanks to their sculptors. Afterwards, the Lakes Train arrives at Andrade Marin, the gateway to the Imbabura Factory Museum.
The train then heads to the San Roque and Otavalo Stations, places where textiles (ponchos, jackets, shirts, carpets, linings, among others.), hats, metalwork, jewelry, indigenous artists’ paintings and music are exhibited. All this is possible to see in one place: the Otavalo’s Ponchos Square, known worldwide for hosting an important exhibition of the indigenous art of Ecuador.
The tour includes a visit to an inn in Otavalo where passengers eat lunch. After a short break, they return to Ibarra on a tour bus. For more information on this route, go to www.trenecuador.com, or call 1800trenes, or contact Train Ecuador through Twitter and Facebook.
