Weather
The Amazon Region is usually hot and humid. The average temperature here is 26°C (79°F). As in the rest of the country, there are only two seasons in the Amazon, the dry period usually from November to March and the wet one during the rest of the year.
Gastronomy
Yucca is the dietary staple here; this starchy root is peeled and boiled, fried, or used in a variety of dishes and in combination with other traditional Amazon products and river fish cooked in traditional ways.

Yasuni National Park
The Yasuni is the largest protected area in mainland Ecuador and holds an impressive biodiversity in the heart of the Amazon rainforest area. The park is located some 250 km (155 miles) from Quito and was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1989. The Yasuni is located within the claimed ancestral territory of the Huaorani indigenous people and also home to two uncontacted indigenous tribes, the Tagaeri and the Taromenane who live in voluntary isolation.
The Yasuni National Park is the most biologically diverse spot on the planet making for an incredible wildlife viewing experience. The park holds a world record 150 amphibian, more than the United States and Canada combined. Reptiles in the park is also very high with 121 documented species found. The Yasuni also harbors very high levels of fish diversity with 382 known species and it also is home to at least 596 bird species which comprises one-third of the total native bird species in the Amazon. This zone is also very rich with many species of bats, 117 of them and it has over 100,000 different species of insects which is roughly the amount of insect species that can be found in all of North America.
Cuyabeno, Sucumbíos and Orellana
In Cuyabeno reserve, water replaces dry land and canoes and kayaks are the only means of transportation across this mega diverse Amazon basin. The flooded forests of the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve make this a magical and mysterious place which attracts nature lovers from around the world.
Ishkay Yaku, Pastaza
In 2011 the Center for Community Tourism “Ishkay Yaku” was created with the aim of raising awareness about indigenous cultures and traditions. Located in the Amazon rainforest and surrounded by rivers forming a stunning landscape, this is a perfect place for resting in harmony with nature.
